Meet Renegade GK Pro Dean Wilson

Sponsorship has become a critical element of Renegade GK's brand reputation. Accordingly, we concentrate on those individuals who perform under the bright lights and act as special champions for the brand due to their outstanding performance, success, and charisma.

Meet one of our newest RGK Pros, Dean Wilson. Dean hails from the USA and currently plays for Southwestern College and Ozark FC.

Here's what Dean had to say about Renegade GK when we sat down to chat about adding him to our Pro Team!

At Renegade GK we enjoy getting to know our team members, the challenges they’ve faced, the obstacles they’ve overcome. To be an RGK Pro is more than just what you do on the pitch under the bright lights. What sets RGK Pro’s apart from the crowd is what they do in silence, the relentless pursuit of perfection.

Q: Why did you want to be sponsored by Renegade GK?

A: I would love to be sponsored by Renegade GK. Firstly, during the summer of 2019, they were amazing in their sponsorship of all goalkeepers in the NPSL and I was first introduced to the brand and wore the gloves all summer for my NPSL team Ozark FC and instantly fell in love with them.

Q: Give us a bit of background around your playing history.

A: I grew up playing in Scotland as a goalkeeper from the age of 5 playing with a local boys team until 16 years old. Played men's amateur and semi-professional until 19 years old. Represented my National team on the collegiate level for 2 years Came to America in 2015 and played for Junior college team Rose state college in Oklahoma, captained the team my sophomore year and was awarded Conference tournament all team. Transferred to NAIA team Southwestern College in Kansas. Captained my two years there and awarded KCAC Team of the Week on 2 occasions, named All-Conference Honorable Mention, and was tied in votes for Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018, and was an All-Scholar Athlete both years. Was voted Team MVP and Team Defensive Player of the Year both years. Broke school records as an All-Time Leader in Career Shutouts, Career Save Percentage, and Fewest Goals Conceded in a Season, Career Goals against Average, and is listed in the top 3 for Career Saves. Played for NPSL team Ozark Fc over the summer of 2019. Helped them get to the playoffs for the first time in its history and got the game-winning assist in the team's first-ever win against reigning conference champions little rock.

Q: What are your dreams as a goalkeeper?

A: To play professional full time and for my father to watch me every week from the stands.

Q: What’s one thing about goalkeeping you wish you knew when you started?

A: The importance of continually moving on fundamentals.

Q: Let’s get vulnerable, don’t worry we won’t share this with next Saturday’s opponent. One thing you struggle with in goal today?

A: That would be bottom shots.

Q: Describe the best save you’ve ever made?

A: Last game in Scotland before leaving for America, league cup finals with my men's team (Hamilton Hustle AFC) 2-2 at full time and went to penalties, got down to sudden death and I saved the first penalty to set us my best mate and teammate (Steve Brown) to score the as the winner with AFC my family in the stand and my dad ran onto the pitch and dived on top of me celebrating.

As we wrap up with Dean, please join us in welcoming him to the team! Don’t forget, for more information, or to keep up with all your RGK Pros, we will be posting regular updates and highlights pitchside as we follow Dean and all our Pros this season!
