Sponsorship has become a critical element of Renegade GK's brand reputation. Accordingly, we concentrate on those individuals who perform under the bright lights and act as special champions for the brand due to their outstanding performance, success, and charisma.
Meet one of our newest RGK Pros, Johnathan McLean. Johnathan hails from the USA and currently plays for FC Grande (UPSL Southwestern Conference).
Here's what Johnathan had to say about Renegade GK when we sat down to chat about adding him to our Pro Team!
We always like to have a bit of fun with our new Pros and see if we can make them crack a smile first. Here are a few fun ones from our quickfire questions that really get to the core of what makes Johnathan a true Renegade!
Q: Favorite food?
A: Chicken Alfredo Pasta
Q: Favorite pro team to follow?
A: FC Barcelona
Q: If you could play for any club in the world which would it be?
A: AJAX
Q: Favorite goalkeeper of all time?
A: Manuel Neuer
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?
A: Always saying a prayer before kickoff.
Once we’ve all loosened up a bit we dig into the journey that led Jonathan to our brand. At Renegade GK we enjoy getting to know our team members, the challenges they’ve faced, the obstacles they’ve overcome. To be an RGK Pro is more than just what you do on the pitch under the bright lights. What sets RGK Pro’s apart from the crowd is what they do in silence, the relentless pursuit of perfection.
Q: Why did you want to be sponsored by Renegade GK?
A: I just love everything about the gloves.
Q: Give us a bit of background around your playing history.
A: I had played for Tigers FC (CIFA) then got the spot for FC Grande (UPSL)
Q: Do you have a favorite quote or inspirational saying that gets you through hard times in net?
A: “Trust the process”. My reason for using this quote often is I truly understand that things come in due time, maybe it won't come when you mostly may want or need it but you still need to stay dedicated to practicing and improving your skills nevertheless.
Q: What are your dreams as a goalkeeper?
A: My goal is to someday get signed professionally and to make my country proud.
Q: What’s one thing about goalkeeping you wish you knew when you started?
A: I wish I knew how to position myself better.
Q: Let’s get vulnerable, don’t worry we won’t share this with next Saturday’s opponent. One thing you struggle with in goal today?
A: That would be quick recoveries.
Q: Describe the best save you’ve ever made?
A: My best save would probably be penalty kickouts in the finals of 2014. We were up against our rivals and during the whole game, they tried getting in my head but failed. We ended overtime 1 -1 and had to go to penalties. I managed to save the first penalty that was kicked low to my left, then it came down to the last penalty. I remember seeing the rival team put the ball on the penalty spot, took a few steps back to the right, to think he was left-footed. So, I decided to fake him on my right to force him to push it left and he did. It was going top corner and I did a diving save to push it out. This won the cup for my team.
As we wrap up with Johnathan, please join us in welcoming him to the team! Don’t forget, for more information, or to keep up with all your RGK Pros, we will be posting regular updates and highlights pitchside as we follow Jonathan and all our Pros this season!
